A growing forest.

Israel-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry is happy to partner with ESCP Startup Chair on the “Signatures” of the recent book Incubators of the World, written by Daniel Rouach, François Deneux, and Steve Louzoun. An event to be held on July 30th in Tel-Aviv under the leadership of Pr Daniel Rouach and Dr Ron Waldman, both Senior Members of CCIIF, with the participation of several distinguished guest speakers from Israel’s business and innovation ecosystem.

Pr Rouach had already started in 2018 with Eddy Cukierman to tackle the subject with Israel Valley concept, an original view showing how innovation and business clusters had become the technology shield of the Startup Nation. Eight years later the perspective has widened, as Israel can now confidently hold its own against the giants of the field : USA, France, Switzerland, China and Japan, and compare its top leaders’ best practices to the others’ ones.

The French are already familiar with Station F in Paris, maybe the world’s largest startup facility housing thousands of desks and multiple partner incubation programs, while the USA focused entrepreneurs probably know better the 20 year old Y Combinator of Silicon valley with the successful launches of Airbnb, Dropbox and many others in its track record. Israel’s incubators are of course smaller, but the number of unicorns they have produced in the last few years demonstrates their vitality and effectiveness.

As the African proverb says “A falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest”. The business incubators are somehow the foresters of our time, nurturing early-stage startups, helping them by providing workspace, seed funding, mentoring and training, paving the way for the world we’ll have tomorrow. But in spite of their central role in the innovation ecosystem, they are still little known and not really understood.

 

We in Israel-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry strongly believe that innovation is key for both countries’ growth and sustained cooperation. So CCIIF fully supports this ESCP Startup Chair event, which will examine how the major incubators of the world are organized and managed, as well as the respective roles of their governments, universities, and private industry. Probably the best way to show their long-term impact on economic development, on the big trees of tomorrow.
