STARLINK.
Lancé en 2019, Starlink est aujourd’hui le premier fournisseur mondial d’Internet par satellite à avoir misé sur cette architecture. Près de 9 400 satellites sont déjà opérationnels et gravitent autour de la Terre, mais Elon Musk voit bien plus loin : à terme, la constellation pourrait compter jusqu’à 42 000 satellites, formant une véritable toile numérique enveloppant la planète.
Fournir un accès à Internet haut débit partout sur la planète, y compris dans les zones les plus reculées et dépourvues d’infrastructures : telle est l’ambition de Starlink, le projet porté par Elon Musk via sa société SpaceX.
Ce projet est très bien vu en Israël. L’Etat hébreu s’associe avec Elon Musk dans la fabrications de composants destinés au projet.
StarLink est actif en Israël depuis environ deux ans. Les tarifs de Starlink sont nettement supérieurs au coût moyen d’un abonnement internet fixe en Israël. Pour les particuliers, l’entreprise propose un forfait à partir de 230 shekels (environ 63 dollars) par mois, offrant des débits descendants de 45 à 130 mégabits par seconde et des débits montants de 10 à 20 mégabits par seconde.
La division SpaceX offre aux Israéliens un accès Internet rapide avec des vitesses de téléchargement comprises entre 40 et 200 Mbps et des vitesses de téléversement comprises entre 8 et 25 Mbps .
Une promesse technologique qui répond à l’explosion des usages numériques contemporains — jeux vidéo en ligne, visioconférences, télétravail, télémédecine — et qui redéfinit déjà la connectivité mondiale.
